If I Had to Leave Today

If I Had to Leave Today

If I had to leave today, what would I take with me?
If I had to leave today from my home?
If somebody came to say, “you ain’t got time – come with me”,
What would I take away from my home?

If I had to leave this place, where would I go to?
If I had to leave this place, that’s my home?
If I knew that it was the case, there’d be nothing to come home to,
How could I leave this place that’s my home?

No time for discussion, no bargain to be made,
No appeal to reason, no ransom to be paid.
The facts are hard and simple, the choices swift and stark,
Take what you can carry and drive off through the dark.

When I have to leave this life, what will I leave behind me?
When I have to leave this life and move on?
Will I vanish without a trace, no sound or echo?
Will there be anybody knows that I’m gone?

No time for discussion, no bargain to be made,
No appeal to reason, no ransom to be paid.
The facts are hard and simple, the choices swift and stark,
Leave it all behind you and slip into the dark.

You know that I hope and pray, that all of us are delivered
Away from the flood and fire and the wind.
And if something I do today can improve our chances,
I think that it’s probably time to begin.

If I had to leave today, what would I take with me?
If I had to leave today from my home?
Would I vanish without a trace, no sound or echo?
If I had to leave today from my home.
If I had to leave today from my home.
